Géralda est mon premier cyclone. J'étais en vacances sur l'île Sainte Marie au Lakana hôtel où je logeais dans un bungalow sur pilotis posé sur le lagon. Le patron de l'hôtel a été informé par VHF de l'arrivée imminente du cyclone un jour avant seulement. étonnamment j'avais constaté que de nombreux touristes logés ailleurs quittaient prestement l'île par avion. Par précaution le patron nous a déménagé dans un bungalow sur terre à une trentaine de mètres du rivage. Bien lui en a pris. C'est en début de soirée et toute la nuit que Géralda a entrepris son travail de sape. Ceci étant notre bungalow en bois et falafa a bien résisté. Au matin une fois le vent retombé on a pu constater les dégâts : montée de la mer, bungalows sur le lagon balayés, ponton arraché, badamiers déracinés. Quand je suis rentré sur Tana c'était la désolation. Le pays avait déjà été durement touché en janvier par le cyclone Daisy, Géralda a fini de le mettre à terre.
